Following the term dentistry, Flora dentistry will explain the dental terms of open laughter.
Smile well. Almost everyone knows that when you smile, the gums are exposed too much from the root of your teeth to your upper lip, causing you to lose confidence in that smile and be shy when communicating with people around you in the most natural way. To overcome this situation, many customers have come to many dental centers or beauty centers to find the most natural smile.
However, during the examination and treatment, the consultant will mention the professional terms that you will ask. So, let’s continue to look for some terms related to good laughter :
1. Smile, smile exposed gums
The phenomenon of the gums being exposed above 3mm from the root of the tooth to the upper lip when smiling, this is not pathological and does not affect oral health, but very affect the aesthetics.
2. Bone socket
The bone wraps around and supports the root of the tooth to stand. The bone socket works like an anchor that helps to fix the position of the tooth on the jaw. When we eat, the chewing force is absorbed and consumed thanks to this type of bone. It should have a shock-reducing effect when we chew hard or bite hard objects.
3. Lip repositioning surgery
If the lips are the cause of open laughter, your doctor may recommend lip repositioning surgery. The process changes the position of your lips relative to your teeth.
It is done by removing part of the connective tissue from the underside of your upper lip. This will prevent the lifting muscles in your lips and nose from lifting your upper lip too high for your teeth.
4. Orthognathic Surgery
If your jaw is part of the reason you show excessive gums, your dentist or dental surgeon may recommend orthopedic surgery. This procedure will balance the length of your upper and lower jaws.
5. Temporary Anchoring Equipment (TAD)
- TADs are small screws implanted into the bone in your mouth.
- They are usually brought into the office of a maxillofacial or oral surgeon.
- Local anesthetic is used to numb the area where the screws are implanted
TAD is less invasive and less creamy than surgery. If you don’t want surgery, your dentist will probably advise you on this method.
If moving your lips too far from the gum contour when you smile causes an open smile, then botulinum toxin injections, also known as Botox, will help you have a more perfect smile. Botox is less expensive and also less intrusive than surgery. But the effect will not be high, you will have to repeat injections after 3 to 4 months. Too much Botox injections will make your smile unnatural.
7. Hyaluronic acid
Another way to temporarily adjust the open smile due to the lips being too immobile is to inject hyaluronic acid fillers. The filler restricts the movement of muscle fibers in your lips for up to 8 months. However, this therapy will have the accompanying risks although complications rarely occur but it is possible that:
- Your blood supply can be damaged, leading to tissue loss, blindness or a stroke.
- Your body’s immune system can react with hyaluronic acid and form nodules or granules.
Above are the terms that dentists will advise when you come to see the smile service, Flora Dentistry hopes this information you will know more when consulted and better understood to choose the best therapy for yourself.
